Posted: by Jeff-Moore Time: 2012-12-22 10:55

Topics: Kidney Failure Biopsy

Details: My step father has recently suffered a stoke and his kidneys are functioning at a poor level. He had one kidney biopsy that was unsucessful the tissues they pulled did not provide answers they were unusable. They want to do the biopsy again

Expert Answer

It's true that if they do another biopsy for him, he has to stop the blood thinners in case there is continuous bleeding. In my opinion, if we can make clear diagnosis according to him medical history and complete blood tests, biopsy can be avoided. I suggest him to test lymphocyte subgroup and circulating immune complex to exclude the pathological changes due to immune problem.
