Creatinine Level Increases from 3.7 to 4.1 in Three Days

Topics: High Creatinine Level

Details: At present, my creatinine is 4.1. Three days before, it was 3.7. Why does it increase so much in 3 days. What are the possible reason for this? How can I reduce it?

Expert Answer

Creatinine is one waste product produced during muscle contraction. Generally, healthy kidneys eliminate extra creatinine out of the body timely. Therefore, serum creatinine level is often used in clinic to reveal how well kidneys are functioning. Normally, serum creatinine is 0.5~1.1mg/dl for female and 0.6~1.2 mg/dl for male.

Creatinine 3.7 to 4.1 is much higher than the normal value, so it is more likely to indicate the aggravation of patients’ kidney condition. Additionally, dehydration, eating too much meat or doing too much strenuous exercise, etc, may also be the causes of serum creatinine increase.

According to the underlying causes, you are suggested to find out what causes your creatinine level to increase. Then, you can try the following methods to lower your creatinine level effectively.

- Reduce the level of physical activity: This can help reduce the production of creatinine in the blood.

- Limit the intake of meat: Creatine, the source of creatinine, can be found in various meat, so you had better limit meat intake.

- Improve kidney filtration rate: Several therapies can help achieve this goal. Check with the doctor online to determine which therapy is good for you.
